About this event:
From 3 to 5 pm on Saturday, November 19, the Gadsden Museum of Art will host
an Opening Reception and Artist Talk for Sara Garden Armstrong’s Threads and
Layers, located in the Main and Courtyard Galleries on the first floor of the
museum. Another featured artist for the talk will be Shaun Roberts, whose
exhibition Archetypes and Eternal Stories, is located in the Barbara Reed Gallery
on the second floor. Light refreshments will be served.
Armstrong’s artist statement characterizes her work as lyrical, nature-based
biomorphic abstraction, focusing on life processes and systems. This exhibition
features paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints, artist’s books, and installations,
representing both current and older work. New York critic says that Armstrong’s art
“has a resounding impact for today, and vast implications for whatever tomorrow
may bring.”
Shaun Roberts utilizes allegorical and western motifs to explore timeless
narratives within his paintings. He looks to cultures and canonized beauties
of the past, such as the Renaissance or the American West. Roberts
explores sentimentality and sensuality in his paintings, which intentionally
create a cathartic moment between the viewer and the subject.
